Natalia is an Italian immigrant who, like Sara, is thrown into the Blackwell Island Women's Asylum despite being completely sound in mind and body. Sara and Natalia quickly form a friendship and emotionally depend on one another during their trying tenure in the asylum. Although Natalia is not immediately freed after Nellie Bly's investigative report, as Sara is, Natalia is eventually freed and able to return to a normal life (271).
