The psychological impact to Meg is actually quite subdued given how horrific her personal situation. Rather than give in to her fear and hysteria, Meg forces herself to remain stoic and quick-thinking. This is her survival strategy, to be sure. It is also her way of blocking out the mental demons that would otherwise plague her confined as she is in small, dark places. Meg shows that she has grown from her previous stint as a fugitive from the law and has learned to take advantage of any opportunities if they will further her goal to survive
