How does Helena become betrothed to Bertram in the beginning of All's Well That Ends Well?

At the beginning of All's Well That Ends Well, Helena goes to Paris to cure the ailing king, using her father's medicine. She cures the king and he gives her her choice of husbands. She chooses Bertram, who is indifferent to her.
