Who is Creighton "Smitty" Smith in the story, Hasta Luego, from the collection, Table For Two?

Smitty is a garrulous man who begins ingratiating himself with a number of other travelers at the airport after his flight out of LaGuardia is grounded in a snowstorm. The story's narrator, Jerry, immediately takes notice of the ease with which Smitty interacts with others; he strikes up conversations with almost every other member of the flight and eventually Jerry himself, propositioning all of them to locate a hotel to stay in as the weather passes. Once at the hotel, Smitty's easy interactions with a wide variety of personalities continue to become evident, as does his generosity; he begins buying drinks for everyone at the bar and striking up boisterous conversations with them.
