Table for Two is divided into seven separate stories, none of which have anything to do with one another outside of the broad connections between their themes and settings. The shorter fictions in the collection generally obey conventional structures of linear narrative, although in two of them Towles uses a clever trick in which he withholds a crucial revelation from an earlier moment in the story for its final structural moments. The novella at the end of the collection, "Eve in Hollywood," is structured in two parts and divided into several chapters that are narrated from the third-person limited perspectives of different characters, creating a kind of chorus of perspectives on the events of the story that is crucial to both its presentation and its themes.
