Sylvia Ashton-Warner’s uses the word “organic” because she believes that literacy grows naturally from a child’s life experiences—their personal experiences, their emotions and imagination. She does not beliece that literacy blooms by using standard curriculum and materials.
Her scheme, or teaching method, puts an emphasis on spontaneity, creativity, and self-expression. Curriculum is replaced by content that is produced by the students themselves.
