How does the author use foreshadowing in Sunset Express: An Elvis Cole Novel?

In Chapter Eight, we learn that LeCedrick Earle is a career criminal who saw an opportunity to have his sentence reduced by claiming a set up on behalf of the police. It is clear when Elvis interviews him that LeCedrick made up the story against Rossi and this notion is reinforced when Elvis meets with his mother, who was present the night of the arrest. What is important in these chapters is not so much the accusations against Rossi, but the introduction of two characters who have the power to help or hurt Rossi in the future. This foreshadows a time when these characters could come back and cause a great deal of trouble for Rossi.
