A third person omniscient point of view is perhaps the only way in which this tale can be told. There are so many characters with such diverse backgrounds and mental/emotional issues, it is absolutely critical to have a full picture of their thoughts and feelings, in order to comprehend their actions. Consider Dick LaChaise and Bill Martin, for example. The reader must be given much more than a cursory description of their backgrounds in order to perceive them as believable. Both men are mentally damaged and, unless the reader is allowed access to their thoughts and feelings, he would have difficulty understanding the excesses of their rages, violence and hatred.
