In your opinion, what is the overall message that Hebdige gets across by writing this book?

Hebdige may not necessarily be trying to "get a message across." He is encouraging his readers to think objectively. Contrary to what many think, subcultures play a vital role in society. Each have their own set of values that define them, but together, they also have a corporate purpose.
