What are the motifs in The Fourth Turning: An American Prophecy by William Strauss?

Preparation is a recurring idea. The point of the book is to illuminate the cycles of history throughout the past and present in order to understand the unfolding of the future. The 'Fourth Turning' has not yet begun in 1997 when the book was published. On the authors' view, American culture is still in its third turning, or a period of cultural unraveling, polarized moral battles and decay social institutions.
