Who is Foster from Stranger in a Strange Land and what is their importance?

Foster was the founder of the Church of the New Revelation, which was a popular cult-like religion. He was poisoned by one of his followers (Digby) and went onto to live as the Archangel Foster. As a result of his actions, Digby was blinked off the Earth by Michael and went onto become Archangel Digby.
