Who is Ben Caxton from Stranger in a Strange Land and what is their importance?

Ben Caxton is a journalist. He is in love with Gillian (Jill), but his interest in Michael and getting his story is top priority. When Michael begins his church, Ben attends. Ben, however, as a representative of the average guy, is appalled at the sexual exhibitions and quickly leaves. Later, after becoming accustomed to it, he returns to the church.
