How does Jekyll interpret his relationship with Hyde?

Jekyll sees Hyde as an extension of himself. Hyde is Jekyll's alter ego and indulges in all the things Jekyll won't allow himself. None-the-less, Jekyll interprets himself as the one in control, not initially understanding that with every change, Hyde became stronger.
