What does Richard end up doing in Du Chaillu's village, how does he feel about it and what is Du Chaillu's reponse?

Richard enters Hagan woods knowing that Pasha can feel his collar and will soon come looking for him demanding that he leave. Before Pasha gets there, Richard feels something moving close to him and he kills a monstrous beast. When Pasha arrives with the sister that demoted Verna to novice rank and put her in the stables, Richard refuses to leave Hagen Woods until Verna is returned to her position.
