Who is Kim and Scotty from Stone Butch Blues and what is their importance?

Kim and Scotty are Gloria's two young children. Scotty is too young to notice Jess's gender, but Kim has many questions - like how can two "girls" be married, and why did the man at the zoo call Jess "sir"? Jess teaches the children that people should be free to be who they are and love who they love.
