Crichton makes use of foreshadowing in Part VI when Ann decides to change her mind about getting on the plane when headhunters are mentioned. Ann, a minor character, believes everything the media tells her and was previously ready to jump on the bandwagon without a second thought. Her decision to leave the group foreshadows the fact that someone will become dinner for the cannibals before its over.
