Where does the story take place?

Mica Arizona is a small community in the foothills of the Miracopas (Mountain Range). Much of what happens in the story takes place in a high school setting, particularly in the lunchroom, hallways, and out on the football field or on the basketball court. Occasionally, the author takes us out into the strange and magnificent desert landscape. Both flora and fauna are described in the book. There is Porcupine Yucca, Beaver Tail, Prickly Pear, Barrel Cacti and more. Those not familiar with a desert landscape would expect the soil to be more sandy than pebbly. And the bits of mica (a silicate material found in minute shiny scales) imbedded in the soil are also surprising. We also learn that there are ponds beneath the ground in the desert and that frogs lie dormant until the rains come.

While we are given many descriptions of homes or community buildings the reader is given a sense that they are the type of homes, albeit stucco, that you might find in any small town.
