What happens in the summer with the sky and why does Simon call Tyler? How does Tyler respond?

Later that summer, the sky starts to flicker more frequently, and for longer periods at a time. One night when the flickering is particularly bad, Tyler receives a call for help from Simon. Describing Diane as very sick, her husband is requesting Tyler's help urgently. The conversation is quickly cut off by the flickering and the phone line dies out.
