Jason reveals that one of Perihelion's projects is to colonize Mars, first by sending seeds that will grow a biosphere on the red planet, then by sending humans as part of a plan to start a civilization of their own. Given that time passes much faster outside the spin than it does on Earth, chances are that an entire civilization could spawn on Mars in only a few months of Spin time. This could eventually help the Earth people in that if the Martian civilization develops very advanced technology during there time, they may be able to develop space ships and the ability to remove the Earth people to a inhabitable planet once the Sun in this Solar system begins to disintegrate.
