How does Tyler seem to continue in his mother's "footsteps"?help

In asserting that Tyler's mother was the "pillar" of the Lawton family, it is obvious that Tyler is part of the same tradition, as he keeps taking care of Jason and Diane. His refusal to inform Jason's parent of his medical condition is just another way of protecting him. His offering to buy Diane and Simon plane tickets to visit Jason is another indication that Tyler has assumed his mother's role of Lawton family caretaker.
