Who is Annie Baxter from Spencerville and what is their importance?

Annie Baxter is Cliff Baxter's wife. Once in love with Keith Landry, she marries Cliff Baxter out of spite when Keith leaves for the Vietnam war. Her marriage is loveless, and her husband is corrupt.

When Annie's youngest child prepares to leave home for college, Annie decides it's time to make preparations for the rest of her life..... to escape Cliff's control. She steals one of his guns and tries to kill him, but in the end discovers that she does not have the strength to kill in cold blood. When she learns that Keith Landry is back in town, however, she jumps at the opportunity to run away with the love of her life.
Unfortunately, Annie underestimates the lengths Cliff will go to to get her back.

She is kidnapped by her husband and chained to the living room floor of their hunting cabin, where she is abused and sexually assaulted repeatedly. This does not keep Annie from fighting, however. Annie manages to free herself from her restraints just as Keith breaks into the house to rescue her, and although Keith is the military man..... it is Annie who takes Cliff's life in the end.
