How does the author show the theme of racism.
Armstrong uses the young boy and his family to dramatize the evils of racism and poverty. Notions of social injustice and unnecessary cruelty are developed through precise and realistic descriptions of the father's arrest, the boy's visit to him in jail, and the incident of the father's crippling.
