One major theme in the novel, Sophie's Choice, is the act of suicide. Sophie's Choice focuses on the many aspects of suicide, allowing the reader to see the act of taking one's own life in a different way than we normally envision it. Most of us understand that suicide is often a path taken out of desperation and hopelessness. We don't, however, immediately think of suicide in terms of revenge.
