In Chapter Sixteen, Vince is extremely upset about Kendra leaving him, but Alex is seemingly happy about it. They listen to the cassette tape with Kendra singing, and Vince can't handle it. The cassette is a symbol of their relationship.
In the same chapter, the tumultuous weather is symbolic of the relationship between Vince and his father.
