Who is the main character in Soldier's Heart by Gary Paulsen?

Fifteen year old, Charley Goddard, is the main character in Soldier's Heart. He is tall, has big hands, and as of yet.... is beardless. Over the course of the novel, we see Charley muture from a teenage boy into a man.
