What horrors did Charley experience during his first battle.

Charley's first battle is a big one.. the Battle of Bull Run. He sees many of his friends killed, especially a close friend who is killed by a cannon. After this first battle, his eagerness for war and his romantic notions are gone. He is afraid that he won't live to see the end of the war.
