Oluo makes clear the reasons why intersectionality is such a crucial element of the fight for social justice. Essentially, her claim is that no matter how little privilege a particular person or group has, there are always other groups whose fights are forgotten by any group that has even slightly more power in society than they do. So unless we stay focused on the entirety of the social justice situation by addressing sizeism, ageism, sexism, and ableism, for example, when addressing issues of racism, real progress will not be made.
