As a blatant example of cultural appropriation, Oluo brings up the topic of white youth wearing Indian headdresses to music festivals such as Coachella. Oluo illustrates the way in which the power imbalances in the country are responsible for cultural appropriation causing so much pain and being such a pervasive problem. She points out that if no such power imbalance existed, then it would just be a stupid and thoughtless idea to wear a sacred artifact from another culture to a music festival. In the current climate, however, acts of cultural appropriation are hurtful and should be avoided at all costs.
