What does Persse do after walking away from the information desk in the final chapter of the book?

After Persse walks away from the British Airways Information desk, he goes to watch the Departures board, looking at the different cities and times flashing across it, places like Moscow, Bangkok, Johannesburg, and Ottawa, and thinks it looks like a huge game of chance as it tumbles and changes every few minutes and then comes to rest in a different configuration.
