What did Philip think about in the twenty minutes the damaged plane spent circling Genoa?

Philip says he thought about his wife and children hearing of the accident in the morning on the radio and feeling terrible about the way they'd hear of his death. He thought about how unfair it was that he should die that way. He worried about being crippled, and remembered the terms of the insurance provided to him as a lecturer--different limbs received different compensation.
