How is Philip feeling about his trip to Turkey on his last night?

All of the Turks Philip has met have been kind and hospitable. He has been taken to parties and receptions and dinners, feted and celebrated both for himself and for being the cause of the British Council's largesse. He has given lectures and been received warmly and with respect. Throughout the entire trip, however, possibly starting with that one glimpse of his wife's breast and subsequent pang of desire, Philip has been wondering what he is doing, why he is in Turkey instead of at home, what the point is, how what he is doing now can possibly be of help to anyone, including himself. He is depressed and lonely.
