How did Persse get his current job in Limerick?

Persse obtained his current position mostly by luck; he received a letter inviting him to interview by mistake--it was supposed to have gone to a different McGarrigle. The department had been so certain they wanted to hire the other McGarrigle that they hadn't set up any other interviews, and they were too embarrassed to retract the invitation, so in the end he was hired.
