Who is Bernard Vonnegut from Slapstick: Or, Lonesome No More! and what is their importance?

Bernard Vonnegut is the author's older brother. Bernard works as an atmospheric scientist for the Stat University of New York at Albany. He is a widower, he has two young sons, and three grown children from a previous marriage.
