How does the author use foreshadowing in Silk?

In Chapter Twenty-Five, Baldabiou plays billiards against his "handicapped" self, or by shooting alternately with one hand. His method of playing billiards foreshadows his later departure: when he announces that he will leave town when "handicapped" wins a game, the reader knows that he will someday leave Joncour.
