An example of a gender code is an unmarried woman. The image of an unmarried woman changed from a spinster to a singleton or a swinging single. The image once pitied is now envied by many. The image of women in Our Miss Brooks in the 1950s got transformed into protagonist singletons in the Sex and the City show of the 90s.
