The analysis of a television episode is similar to analysis of an essay or short story. The writer analyzing the episode must ascertain if she/he likes it or not and then provide the supporting evidence. The writer must also view the program within the context of the television schedule for the evening or whatever the relevant period is, and how popular the program is. In addition, the writer may want to observe the advertisements during the program and what kind of social and cultural impact they may have on the audience. The writer must determine the implicit message of the show, in addition to the explicit messages. The implicit message is the key to making a critical interpretation.
