Who is the protagonist in Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell?

Actually the protagonist is narrator who killed an elephant, we knew from the beginning that this elephant was innocent, however George have done what was expected by the crowd that represent the British citizens. George had two options, either to kill this elephant or to be called a cowerd for such pity and hesitation.
