Who is Ben/Benjamin Sherban from Shikasta: Re, Colonised Planet 5: Personal, Psychological, Historical... and what is their importance?

Benjamin Sherban is one of Johor's companions from Shikastan pre-history. Ben is described as a gossip, who was a raucous and resentful child. As he grows up, however, he finds a sense of purpose in life. Ben runs one of the Youth Camps, and he eventually comes to lead the youngest of the Youth Army children - ages 8 - 14. He leads them to meet George at the Trial, and he later helps George organize new cities that will survive the Apocalypse.
