Sarah Vida, Shattered Mirror, is the main character in the novel. She has grown up in a family of vampire hunters. This sort of expectation makes her put herself in dangerous situations to prove her worth. Later, though, she calls into question her family's tradition of hate and prejudice when she meets and befriends Nissa and Christopher. She decides to think for herself rather than accept her family's blind hatred. Her will to live is challenged when she is turned into a vampire, herself. Most in her family would have committed suicide, and she knows that this is what they expect of her. However, in the end, she does not kill herself, choosing to live and act as a buffer.
