How does the author use foreshadowing in Sellevision?

When Peggy finds a substance that she believes to be Silly Putty in her son's bedroom, he tells her that it is actually an explosive. This scene, and Peggy's reaction to her son's statement, foreshadows the explosion at her son's school, as well as his apprehension by the juvenile authorities.
