Who is Adah's father

Adah's parents are both relatively supportive, but she has particularly high esteem for her father, whom she calls "Pa." Adah's father is a "railwayman" (16) who seems to value his daughter just as much as his son, even though it was common for parents to strongly prefer male children in Nigeria at this time. When Adah sneaks out of the house to attend school, her father allows her to keep going, even though she got her mother in trouble with the police by running off. (She is caned for misbehaving, but believes this is mostly "for Ma's benefit" (13).) It is noted multiple times that Adah feels more comfortable around men because they are "so solid, so safe" (12), and she feels this way because her father is so kind to her. Adah's father dies when she is still a teenager and this results in her having to move to her uncle's house.
