Morton's began in the late 19th century when Joy Morton created a shipping business between the salt producing regions in upstate New York and Midwestern cities like Chicago. In 1910, Morton's also began producing salt as well, developing a chemical process to produce uniform salt and becoming one of the first companies to Iodize it. Finally, through improved advertising and dispensing, Morton's became the largest salt producer in the world.
