In Salome, the main character, Salome talks to the severed head of her former love interest. She tells it: "... the mystery of love is greater than the mystery of death.Love only one should consider."
She is musing that death is not a great mystery, like everyone says. She says that love is the one great mystery that none fully understand or can hope to understand. This comes after she's killed someone that she longed for, but couldn't have. So, in spite, she killed that which she loved.
