Significance of Ben's Scrapbook of Newspaper Clippings

The newspaper clippings in Ben's scrapbook are all about 'Salem's Lot. They tell of odd happenings that are taking place in 'Salem's Lot. Although each one investigated alone by a person from outside the town may look simply like an unconnected event, every event is almost certainly due to the work of a vampire. Ben is keeping the scrapbook to help him keep track of the vampires of 'Salem's Lot while he is not there to find out whether they are gaining strength, dieing out, or being found out.
