What is the author's tone in Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare?

Shakespeare runs the gamut of tones. At times it is aggressive and violent like the brawl at the market place. At other times it is tender and loving like Romeo and Juliet’s moments together. The play, however, has to end on a tragic tone.
