why is the logan land so important.

Over the course of the novel, Big Ma repeatedly says, "we won't lose the land." In a world where slavery is remembered strongly, Big Ma and her family see the land as a symbol of independence and autonomy. The fact that they own their own land means the Logans can afford to shop in Vicksburg, as they owe nothing to landlords. They are not sharecroppers like the other black families on neighboring land.
