What metaphors are used in Riddley Walker by Russell Hoban?

Metaphorically, the humans in the story seek to end all distrust by giving the world constant light. In doing so, however, they create utter destruction. The death and carnage following the implied nuclear explosion in the story has the opposite effect desired, returning mankind back into darkness, both physically and mentally.
