What chores are Jack responsible for when he works in the barn? What feelings do the chores arouse in him?

Jack is responsible for milking the cows. He is also responsible for feeding the cows their silage and bales of hay. He pushes the manure from the floors into the gutters, and then gets the cows to pasture. He is happy doing these chores, and feels at peace with himself at these times. Jack feels the world is at peace and feels at one with nature in the mornings when he works with the cows.
