Redemption

The narrator provides only two comments about the dead child, David. What are the comments? Do they tell us anything about the child?

There are only two comments about David, both memories of Dale Hawthorne's. The first is of David laughing with cake in his hand, and the second of the child patching a chair with "precocious skill." Neither reveals much about the child other than giving us two happy memories Dale has of his son. Other than these two descriptions, there is nothing else said about David.
