Jack is in the field with the noisy equipment, the sounds of the approaching storm, and his own raging thoughts. Inside his home, he is met with the smell of cooking food. People are in the kitchen bustling about preparing dinner; the house is warm. Jack is bothered because he feels the people in his house are, by their behaviors, acting as if nothing is wrong.
